Ethanol Makes A Comeback

That bountiful corn crop is going to turn into profits for Green Plains Renewable and others. One of the hit songs from the 1943 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical Oklahoma! describes corn that is “as high as an elephant’s eye.” It’s not a bad image for the 2009 corn harvest, 13.1 billion bushels plucked off 86 million acres. This was not entirely a blessing for farmers, since bumper crops come with depressed prices. But it was good news for the beleaguered ethanol industry.

Aerospace and defence giant Boeing has licensed its high-concentration PV technology to engine-based solar systems developer Stirling Energy Systems. Under the deal, SES acquired the exclusive rights to develop, manufacture and deploy Boeing’s XR700 HCPV technology globally. Tessera Solar, SES’ project development affiliate, will be responsible for development, construction and operation of solar power projects using the XR700.

A little known fact about Boeing: It’s got more solar patents than anyone else in the U.S. (14 solar thermal patents since 2002 as of January, according to cleantech patent tracking law firm Heslin Rothenberg Farley & Mesiti). NTR Launches Foundation To Tackle Climate Change

Irish Renewable energy group NTR yesterday launched a not-for-profit foundation that will provide funding and other support for climate change initiatives around the world.  Former US president Bill Clinton gave his support to the initiative at a launch in New York yesterday and urged the 120 executives and local dignitaries who attended to seize the economic opportunities provided by climate change initiatives as a way of stimulating growth and saving the planet.

Clinton Backs NTR's Environment Foundation

Ireland’s first ever environmental foundation set up by a private company got a high level and passionate endorsement yesterday from former US president Bill Clinton at a ceremony in New York.  Mr Clinton, a major campaigner on climate change, told guests of NTR Plc, which is setting up the foundation, that only economic arguments will ultimately win the day on the climate change debate. He was speaking at the University Club in Manhattan.
