West Valley Gains Ground as Solar Hub

The West Valley has become a key destination for the onslaught of solar companies and suppliers looking to establish a supply-chain cluster and gain access to California markets. Linamar Corp. this week added its name to a growing list of companies locating operations in the West Valley. The Canadian company announced plans to open a manufacturing facility in Glendale that initially will employ 52 people.

NTR To Sell UK Arm Of Its Greenstar Business For £135m

Renewable Energy group NTR has agreed to sell the UK arm of its Greenstar waste management business for £135 million (€163.6 million).

Subject to regulatory approval from the European Commission, Greenstar UK will be sold to Montagu Private Equity and Global Infrastructure Partners, the controlling shareholders of leading UK waste group Biffa.

Diversified utility group NTR has no immediate plans to put its Greenstar business in Ireland back up for sale after it announced yesterday that it had agreed to offload its UK arm in a £135m (€162m) deal.

S&C Awarded Contract To Provide Engineering Services For Solar Energy Plant

S&C Electric Company announced that it was awarded a contract to perform engineering services for one of the largest solar plants in the world, Calico Solar. The plant, located near Barstow, California, is being developed by Tessera Solar and EPC firm Mortenson Construction and will use the Stirling Energy Systems (SES) SunCatcher™ solar dish to provide 850 MW of electricity to consumers.

Greenstar Opens Des Moines MRF

Greenstar North America has celebrated the opening of its new Des Moines, Iowa, materials recovery facility (MRF) with a visit from that city’s mayor.  The single-stream facility has the capacity to process five times more material per hour than the system it replaces, according to the Houston-based company.

Social Class Finalists Line Up For €500,000 Entrepreneur Award

A €500.000 fund was announced yesterday along with the six finalists names in the 2010 Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Awards.  Supported by environmental charity the NTR Foundation, categories include mental health, education, young people, community and active citizenship.

Global Renewable Energy Group NTR Hires Caroline Bergin As Legal Adviser

International renewable energy group NTR has appointed Caroline Bergin as legal adviser and company secretary as of July 2010.  Bergin will succeed Eamon Bolger, who will retire in July following eight years of service.  She joins NTR from Greencore Group, an Irish-headquartered publicly traded convenience foods company, where she has been group company secretary since 2002.
