Corporate Treasury & Cash Management 2010
This year’s Corporate Treasury & Cash Management event was supported and endorsed by the Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers (IACT) and targeted top Corporate Treasurers, Finance Directors and CFO’s from Ireland’s top 1000 companies. Taking place at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Golden Lane, Dublin 8, attendees were joined by other senior representatives from the business banking and treasury management sectors as well as international and local administrators.
This was a one day event, the conference offered top quality presentations and discussion opportunities with clear, straightforward analysis of the marketplace. Panel discussions addressed industry issues and regulatory matters along with many topical subjects in the plenary sessions.
Rory O’Connor, NTR’s Head of Corporate Finance and Group Treasurer, participated in the Treasurers Debate alongside the Adrian Noone, Calor Gas and Brendan Glynn, Smurfitt Kappa. The Debate was facilitated by Brendan Murphy, NTMA (former ESB and current IACT Chairman).

REFF West San Francisco
REFF-West came to San Francisco on Wednesday 29th and Thursday 30th September, 2010.
Michael Walsh, NTR’s Group Finance Director, spoke in Session 5: West Coast Developers’ Perspectives, which took place at 3.45pm on 29th September. The panel focused on the financing of West-Coast renewable energy projects from a developer’s point of view.

International Wind Financing Summit 2010 - London 2010
Hanson Wade’s International Wind Financing Summit 2010 took place in London on the 14th and 15th July 2010. It was the meeting place for the wind industry and investors to shape the future of wind finance. With the search on for external investment for Round 3 projects, the International Wind Financing Summit 2010 presented financial options available to wind developers.

REFF Wall Street
On June 29 & 30, over 700 renewable energy thought leaders assembled in New York for the 7th Annual REFF-Wall Street. American Council On Renewable Energy (ACORE) was delighted to once again bring the USA’s premier renewable energy finance event to New York.
The American Council On Renewable Energy is focused on accelerating the adoption of renewable energy technologies into the mainstream of American society. ACORE provides a common platform for the wide range of interests in the renewable energy community including renewable energy industries, associations, utilities, end users, professional service firms, financial institutions and government agencies.

The Credit Suisse Global Alternative Energy Conference
The Credit Suisse Global Alternative Energy Conference took place from Wednesday, 2nd June until Friday 4th June 2010, in Washington DC.
The Credit Suisse Global Alternative Energy Conference focused on energy efficiency, emerging technologies and investment opportunities in both the public and private arenas. The segments covered included solar, wind, energy storage, smart grid, geothermal, water, electric vehicles, biofuels, and utilities. Former Vice President Al Gore delivered a keynote speech at the conference on June 2nd, along with other notable government officials. The conference featured presentations from management teams representing many of the thought leaders in the alternative energy sector, as well as panel discussions on thematic topics.
Jim Barry, CEO, NTR plc participated as one of the key panelists on the Venture Capital & Private Equity Panel.

Marine Energy and Smart Grid Technology Workshop
This two-day workshop was held on 10th and 11th May in Farmleigh House, Dublin and in the Parliament Buildings, Belfast.
The island coastline is amongst the best in the world for offshore, wind, wave and tidal resources. Both jurisdictions on the island have ambitious plans to develop this resource into a significant cutting edge industry by the end of the next decade.
The invitation only workshop brought together senior Government officials, business leaders, trade representatives, off-shore renewable power and transmission sectors and research institutions from the USA, Northern Ireland and Ireland. Over 60 American companies attended as well as companies from Northern Ireland and Ireland.
The event provided networking opportunities for the development of new contacts and relations, the first step to developing innovative projects and partnerships. Keynote addresses were made by senior government representatives from the island as well as by high level personalities from the US. Over 160 attendees attended this event.

Chartered Accountants Ireland Annual Conference
This year’s Chartered Accountants Ireland Annual Conference took place at the Chartered Accountants House, Dublin, on Thursday 6th & Friday 7th May.
Chartered Accountants Ireland was honoured to have as its keynote speaker An Taoiseach Mr Brian Cowen TD.
The conference retained its unique formula of a number of interesting plenary sessions followed by well defined streams which allowed all Chartered Accountants to engage with relevant topics regardless of their area of business. Technical, Blueskies and Tax streams featured on day one, and Business, Practice, Financial Services and Tax streams on day two.

The 2nd Concentrating Solar Thermal Power Conference took place from May 5th – 7th 2010, in San Diego, California and once again brought together industry experts, researchers and investors to examine the latest market developments within the concentrating solar thermal power sector. Key topics covered in the program included market and economic trends, technology and manufacturing, materials and solar concentrators.

The Milken Institute Global Conference, Los Angeles

The 2010 Global Conference took April 26-28 at The Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles.

Macquarie Wind & Solar: Getting Connected Conference
Macquarie’s second annual Wind & Solar conference took place in New York on 10th December 2009 at The Barclay InterContinental hotel. Entitled ‘Wind & Solar: Getting Connected’, the event turned a spotlight on a number of public and private wind and solar companies. In addition to panel discussions and presentations, where the companies were asked to refute a controversial topic, one-on-one meetings with business management teams were also hosted.
Rosheen McGuckian, NTR’s Group Corporate Development Director, participated on the wind panel, alongside First Wind and China Wind Systems. Moderating the panel ws Kasper Larsen, European Climate Change Mitigation Analyst, and the question that was discussed was “Will the US wind power market show any significant growth in 2010?”

New Energy World Network (NewNet) hosted the 3rd Annual Essential CleanTech Investor Summit on Tuesday 10th November 2009 at Park Plaza Victoria in London. The Essential CleanTech Investor Summit is Europe’s leading event for global investors, innovators and deal makers in environmental technology and clean energy.
The Summit covered the key issues for professionals working in venture, private equity, project finance, public markets and M&A. Keynote presentations and panel discussions from senior figures within the industry presented the framework and most current content for thought-provoking debates and stimulated high-level networking opportunities. It was an invaluable opportunity for public and private companies evaluating their capital raising strategies to network with investors, deal brokers and expert financiers.
Rory O’Connor, NTR’s Group Treasurer and Head of Corporate Finance, participated on the ‘Project Finance & Infrastructure’ panel, which focused on the relative merits, opportunities and challenges of corporate finance and infrastructure in this sector.

The Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan was the keynote speaker at the recent IRCSET Symposium (Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering & Technology) held in Dublin on Friday, 25th September. The event provided an opportunity to showcase the potential of Green IT and the “Green Tech” sector, as well as the talent and potential of highly skilled researchers.
Rosheen McGuckian, NTR’s Group Corporate Development Director, was one of the panellists on the day and discussed “Making It Real - from concept to realisation and building a post-carbon energy company”. Other international speakers included Intel’s Director of Environment and Energy Policy, Stephen Harper, and Microsoft’s Cloud Computing expert, Debra Chrapaty, as well as leading Irish researchers in the areas of sustainable IT and green tech.
