Michael McNicholas Appointed CEO of NTR plc

Dublin, 7th June 2011: NTR plc, the international renewable energy group, is pleased to announce that Michael McNicholas has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of NTR plc. This follows Michael’s appointment as Deputy Chief Executive Officer in February 2011, when he assumed responsibility for all day to day operations. Michael has over 25 years of experience in the Irish and International energy industry and was previously a Managing Director of ESB International, the international investment arm of the Irish energy company.
NTR and BlackRock, Inc. announced a strategic relationship in February 2011 and since that time Jim Barry, NTR’s former CEO, has been primarily focused on his role as Chief Investment Officer of BlackRock’s renewable power investment platform. This announcement marks the completion of Jim’s transition from NTR to BlackRock. Jim has also stepped down from the Board of NTR plc.
Speaking about the appointment, Tom Roche, NTR’s Chairman, said: “Michael brings a vision, energy and depth of experience that will greatly benefit NTR and its businesses. He has already proven his abilities at NTR as Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer and on behalf of the NTR Board, I would like to welcome Michael to the role of Chief Executive Officer. Furthermore, the Board would like to extend its sincere thanks to Jim Barry for his many years of loyal service and dedicated leadership and wish him every success in his new role at BlackRock.”

About Michael McNicholas, Chief Executive Officer, NTR plc
Michael McNicholas was appointed CEO of NTR plc in June 2011 following a short period as Deputy CEO. Previously, Michael was NTR plc’s Chief Operating Officer, providing broad operational leadership across the Group’s businesses.
Prior to joining NTR plc in February 2010, Michael was a Director of ESB International, the international investment arm of the Irish energy company. Michael has over 25 years of experience in the Irish and International energy industry where he has held senior positions with responsibility for general management, delivery of major capital projects, funding, international energy project investment, managing regulatory environments and competing in open energy markets.
Michael has a Degree in Engineering from University College Galway. He is a Chartered Member of Engineers Ireland and a Committee Member of the Energy Institute.
