Robert Lukefahr, BP’s former US Wind Energy President, has been appointed as CEO at NTR’s solar US development business, Stirling Energy Systems (SES).
Mr. Lukefahr will be responsible for all aspects of the North American development business which will develop, own and operate grid-scale solar facilities using Stirling’s groundbreaking SunCatcher Power System. He will drive the completion of two existing projects with California utilities San Diego Gas and Electric and Southern California Edison of up to 1,600 MW, with a goal of developing a further 1,000 MW of new solar plants by the end of 2011.
“Bob’s track-record in creating BP’s wind business and taking it to a position of industry leadership makes him an ideal match for SES,” said Jim Barry, CEO of NTR. “Establishment of the North American Project Development business complements our SES solar manufacturing and international development businesses. All the elements are now in place for SES to take full advantage of the opportunity afforded by the SunCatcher solar technology.”
