Newly Acquired Ethanol Plant Up-And-Running After Eight Days

NTR’s ethanol business, Green Plains Renewable Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: GPRE), began operations at its new ethanol plant in Ord, Nebraska on 12th July 2009, just eight days after the acquisition of the plant was completed. The company anticipates production of ethanol by as early as 17th July.

On 22 June 2009, San Antonio, Texas-based Tessera Solar North America signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with San Antonio municipal utility CPS Energy. The 27 MW PPA stems from CPS Energy’s 13 August 2008 request for proposals and is the first contract signed from the RFP. To date, no CSP systems have been installed in Texas.

US utilities are moving beyond power purchase agreements with wind farms plant developers as large-scale solar projects in the states of Nevada and Texas have signed contracts this month to sell their output to retail electricity suppliers. For instance, Las Vegas, Nevada-based NV Energy said it had entered into a long-term PPA to buy power produced from a 20-MW PV power plant that will be constructed near Searchlight, Nevada, 55 miles south of Las Vegas.
